The undergraduate engineering program at Rice University is ranked No. 19 in the nation, up from 20th place last year, according to the 2021 U.S. News and World Report annual rating, while the university as a whole is ranked 16th, also up one spot.
The George R. Brown School of Engineering continues to rank among the top-20 in the annual ratings of the country’s best colleges, retaining its position as the highest ranked engineering program in Texas. The environmental engineering program was ranked No. 15, while civil engineering was at No. 31.
“It is an honor for our school to be recognized as a national leader among undergraduate engineering programs. It is a direct result of the excellence of our students, the hard work of our staff, the dedication of our faculty, and the impact and success of our alumni. I am extremely pleased to see our ranking improve this year,” said Rob Griffin, interim dean of the engineering school.
Among national universities, Rice is ranked 16th; most innovative, 18th; first-year experiences, 51st; learning communities, 18th; undergraduate research/creative projects, 22nd; undergraduate teaching, sixth; best value, eighth.
U.S. News & World Report bases their undergraduate rankings on a methodology focused on graduate outcomes, faculty resources, student excellence, alumni giving and financial resources.
