From sustainable water to sustainable structures, our research areas are wide-ranging and interdisciplinary with the goal of improving lives and preparing for the future.
In the 21st century, natural disasters, aging infrastructure, and climate change produce very real problems for people around the world. As scientists, we study these issues to improve our knowledge and understanding. As engineers, we design and implement solutions that work in real-time. Rice CEE has 13 dynamic research groups working in key areas to tackle those challenges.
Our faculty are highly productive and well-known worldwide. They rank among the top 10 most productive in the United States among all civil engineering and all environmental engineering PhD programs, as shown by the number of publications and accolades attributed to them, as well as the amount of funding they receive.
