About the MCEE Program

The Master of Civil and Environmental Engineering (MCEE) at Rice is a professional non-thesis degree program targeted to managers, practicing engineers, and consultants in technical fields who want to become more effective practitioners in civil and environmental engineering. Our Professional Master’s Program is designed for students whose interests and abilities lie at the interface between traditional engineering and a desire for enhanced skills necessary to tackle the complex infrastructure and environmental challenges of today.

The program is available on a full or part-time basis and takes advantage of its location in Houston, Texas and the wide variety of industries in close proximity to the Rice campus. The program can be completed in as little as one year.

Areas of Specialization

There are two areas of specialization available in the MCEE program to focus on your interests within civil and environmental engineering:

The Civil Engineering track focuses on improving infrastructure resilience, increasing the efficiency of water and energy use, and integrating complex system analysis to enhance risk assessment and mitigation.

The Environmental Engineering track focuses on utilizing technological innovation to minimize and mitigate the environmental impact of human activities, preventing flooding from storm system, and transport and cleanup of chemicals in the environment.
