The Environmental Engineering track focuses on utilizing technological innovation to minimize and mitigate the environmental impact of human activities, developing solutions for sustainable water, and remediation of contaminants from the environment. The program addresses critical environmental problems that impact the health and prosperity of modern societies and the quality of the natural environment, including air and water pollution, sustainable energy transitions, and mitigating anthropogenic impacts on the environment and climate change.
Students in this track learn fundamental principles and cutting-edge technologies applied in the professional practice of environmental engineering in industry, academia, and government careers. The program prepares future engineers to meet the current environmental challenges with a core focus on Sustainability and Climate Resilience. The program is supported by our department-established research groups, including major centers such as the NSF-funded NEWT Center, the SSPEED Center, the WaTER Institute, and the Brine Chemistry Consortium. These groups and centers offer our students access to an expanding network of resources and opportunities to develop skills, broaden experiences, refine career focus, and expand career paths.
