1. Describe your research focus and/or current research project(s) you are working on.
My research focuses on using natural earth-abundant materials to enhance the thermal degradation of soil contaminants.
2. Why did you choose this area of research?
I've always been drawn to nature and the outdoors, but I was inspired to pursue environmental engineering after joining a high school club where I engaged in hands-on activities like tree planting and river clean-ups. Witnessing firsthand the ways we can help the environment made me want to continue developing solutions to protect it.
3. What would you like to pursue after graduation?
After graduation, I’d like to stay in academia and become a professor, where I can inspire, teach, and mentor students about the importance of protecting the environment.
4. What advice or insights do you have for those just beginning their graduate career in CEE at Rice, or for those interested in the program?
There is no failure... you either win or you learn!
5. What do you enjoy doing when you're not working on your degree?
I really enjoy running in my free time, and I love listening to audiobooks while I run. I'm also a big nature and animal lover, so when I’m not running, I often spend time outdoors with my dog.
Thank you for allowing us to learn more about you, Sara! We’re so glad you are a part of the civil and environmental engineering community.
